An Interview with Eyestylist.com
An Interview with Eyestylist.com
Today’s Article is an in depth look at Eyestylist.com, who they are and what they do. Clodagh Norton was kind enough to go through some fun questions so we can all learn more about what Eyestylist does and can do for your business! The interview provides great details and information for consumers, opticians, business startups, and even tech folks from the Silicon Valley. Eyestylist is a great avenue for anyone, especially those in the optical industry, to gather a great deal of information and ideas as well as support from the talented staff at Eyestylist.com. If you are a startup or even a new business, I highly recommend looking into Eyestylist a bit deeper after reading this article.
What is eyestylist.com?
Eyestylist.com <http://eyestylist.com/> is the leading fashion reference for independent eyewear and accessories online. Launched in 2011, Eyestylist was created as an online magazine style resource for information about fine eyewear and accessories, written by journalists with many years’ expertise in the optical industry and a passion for design, craftsmanship and innovation in this field.
Why was eyestylist created?
At the time, in 2011, eyewear resources were few and far between. We wanted to focus on independent brands, with a space that would tell their creative stories in detail ….and become a reference for their evolution. We wanted to focus in on the top shops around the world where these collections can be found. And to identify all the trends and innovations in this world, which were largely not being looked at in detail anywhere else. We also felt a cultural link to other creative disciplines and the arts (in our ARTS + TRAVEL section) would be exciting.
What is your background (or the teams background)?
I am a journalist who has worked in optics since 1999. I also have experience (through that time) in PR and brand consultancy.
What is the goal of eyestylist and how does it support boutiques?
Eyestylist has grown into an online publishing business and a no 1 reference for eyewear enthusiasts and opticians. Our goal is to continue to further our reach in the fashion and design industries and beyond. We do a lot of work on promoting stores and putting out information about the great ones online and through social media.
How is your business different than other blogs/magazines/review sites?
We have grown into a publishing and consultancy business beyond the site: we provide editorial content, interviews, fashion shoots, newsletters, as well as private services to brands such as PR, shoots, written content and so on. I also write for other prestigious online businesses and online stores who have found me via Eyestylist. And we have always had a consumer following which is getting bigger and bigger. So you can say we are influential in B2B but also B2C….we have a lot of influencers and bloggers following us and we work with innovators in fashion, photography, design etc.
How do you choose boutiques to do your reviews?
We select the best fashion and optical stores around the world. Many of them we visit ourselves if we can.
What is your target audience and why do they enjoy the information you provide?
We have always written for anyone and we have different audiences on different social media: on the site we have a range of consumers, opticians, entrepreneurs, and other business oriented people including investors and start-ups…I’ve also been told that we have followers from the tech sector in Silicone Valley! So, honestly it’s quite a diverse audience!
You would be amazed by how many emails I receive from many different corners of the world. On social media and particularly INSTAGRAM, our target continues to be to reach beyond optics into other areas where people are interested in design and creative content. We currently have an audience of 18.5K - I am proud that I did not buy these followers and we have built this following over time.
What other information would you like to add?
We are always keen to answer questions about accessory and eyewear collections and make recommendations of shops around the world and we always encourage people to write to us or DM us on Instagram @eyestylistmagazine if they need help finding the brands and stores we write about.
