I have had the opportunity to tour Matt’s shop, speak with him personally, and see the quality of his work and frame selection first hand. He is passionate about his craft and the quality of the eyewear he styles each of his clients in.

Some Q & A for Matthew…

Matthew, tell us about yourself and experience, why did you open such a unique shop in Chattanooga?

”I've always liked more unique and unusual things, but often found myself reaching for more of the normal things to fit in, up until I found optical I suppose my outlet was always through cars. Once I stumbled into the world of optical it's safe to say I fell in, but I also fell in love with it more and more over time. First fascinated with optics and lens design, and then the odd incident of getting in my head a particular color and style I wanted, that for what I had access to at the time, was non existent, just a simple bright blue frame. Once I found something like that, the spark had struck and there was no real turning back, we needed access to unique and cool frames here! A few offices in town offered luxury, and most head a great structure in place for eye health and exams, so I saw no need diving into that end and focused purely on creating a cool collection of all sorts of eyewear from every day color up to the artistic couture brands we love so much. I would say my inspiration for "how" largely comes from stumbling across L'optique, and learning that independent optical shops like this could exist!”

What is your absolute favorite brand and why do your clients share the enthusiasm"?

”If I had to choose just one, I might explode. But I share a very strong draw and love to both Laibach and York for it's clean cut simple lines with beautiful limited edition runs of colors and great craftsmanship, as well as Anna-Karin Karlson for unbelievable beauty at every angle and a well thought out design that creates a wearable frame, even as unique as they are!”

What makes your eyewear shop so unique offerings?

”Perhaps just being such a bold statement shop in the middle of a largely reserved city is what makes my shop inherently unique, but I like to think the shopping experience is elevated as well by focusing on style and fashion to match a pair of glasses to a personality and a wardrobe, rather than just to the prescription. While of course we use some of the most advanced lenses offered in the world to pair up and make it a truly beautiful and comfortable wearing experience, that's a seamless part of the experience that just happens for each client.”
