About LA Eyeworks
Founded in 1979 on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles by Gai Gherardi and Barbara McReynolds, who met in high school and both worked in optical shops before launching their own line within a year of opening. l.a.Eyeworks became a design-world fixture through its real, documented practice of commissioning eyewear designed by artists and architects. Co-founder Gai Gherardi passed away in early 2025.
